Cured-in-place pipe (CIPP) lining is a powerful tool for trenchless pipe repair on existing pipelines. The ability to repair sewer piping, storm drains, and pressure pipelines for water, gas, and process effluents without digging a trench and removing sections of pipe provides advantages in cost, speed, and safety. Installation of the liner can present challenges that are made more difficult to address due to the nature of the method including: shrinkage, delamination, incomplete curing, off-gassing of volatile organic compounds, and installation errors specific to these methods. This talk will focus on a case study of specific issues associated with inversion installation such as wrinkles, collapse, folds, bumps, incomplete cutouts, and incomplete lining. The key takeaway will be how careful material selection, installation, curing methods, and inspection and testing procedures can be used to ensure these liners meet quality standards.
