13Cr super martensitic stainless steel grades (SMSS-13Cr) show a good compromise between corrosion resistance, high strength and excellent toughness and are used in oil and gas applications. SMSS-13Cr that exhibits minimum yield strength of 110 ksi was investigated in the past leading to different results concerning resistance against sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSC) This contribution summarizes the qualification procedure for 13Cr super martensitic stainless steel in 110 ksi condition according to NORSOK M-650. The qualification was carried out in UNS 41426. Material was hot rolled or forged, and heat treated. Mechanical properties, microstructural characterization and resistance to SSC were investigated. SSC tests were done according to NACE TM0177 Method A. Different parameters for partial pressure of H2S (pH2S), chloride concentration, buffer and electrolyte were applied with a load of 90% Actual Yield Strength (AYS) at room temperature aiming to cover a wide range of production environments. UNS S41426 was only partly resistant at a pH2S of 0.05 bar and totally resistant for a pH2S of 0.01 bar, i.e. no rupture occurred after 720h. The results of all investigations together with a verified manufacturing route led to a Super 13Cr material that is in conformance to NACE MR0175, Annex B.2.3.
