This paper will review proper evaluation of concrete substrates prior to repair and coatings applications. We will cover substrate repairs (including addressing repairs of reinforcing steel members, crack repair, stopping active Inflow & Infiltration, and remediating surface imperfectionsduring placement) , surface preparation methods and required surface profiles for generic chemistries used to coat/line concrete, testing for identification of hidden challenges associated with coating/lining concrete substrates, reduction of known challenges, such as outgassing, associated with coating/lining concrete, and other project site considerations not directly associated with the structure being addressed but will impact the work being performed and/or life cycle of a coating/lining system.
