Hot-dip galvanizing (HDG) and thermal spray zinc (TSZ), also referred to as zinc metallizing, are two prominent methods for applying zinc coatings to steel substrates. Despite similarities in the materials and final coatings produced, the application processes differ significantly, with each offering distinct advantages and limitations. This presentation will review each coating system, a synergistic approach of combining the two steel corrosion protection systems and examples of projects where a synergistic approach has been successfully specified for bridges, utilities, and more.
