Concrete Weight Coating (CWC) failure has been a recurring issue at offshore projects, affecting pipe integrity. Aramco collaborated with its approved coating vendors to address CWC failures. Following several workshops, worked with the vendors to implement corrective actions, including enhanced repair patches for pipes with visible cracks and improved surface profile management during internal coating application. To prevent future defects, Aramco supported the vendor in developing a more robust quality control process, including regular inspections and testing of stored coated pipes. Also provided guidance on proper storage control, ensuring that pipes are stored for shorter periods and with adequate preservation measures in place. Furthermore, encouraged the vendor to adopt a more proactive approach to process improvement, including regular reviews of their coating application process and implementation of corrective actions to address any deficiencies. Through this collaborative effort, Aramco aimed to enhance the vendor's quality performance, reduce the incidence of CWC failure, and ensure the reliable supply of high-quality pipes for offshore projects. By working together, Aramco and the vendor were able to identify and implement effective solutions to this critical issue.
