Corrosion poses a major concern in infrastructure and industry, demanding effective approaches to understand, predict, and mitigate its impact. In this presentation, we will explore how COMSOL Multiphysics® can be used to model cathodic protection in multiple scales. From large-scale infrastructure, such as reinforced concrete structures, to microscale phenomena like species transport mechanisms in the electrolyte and electrochemical reactions occurring at electrolyte–metal interfaces. Such an approach can provide comprehensive insights into corrosion prediction and protection strategies, including multiphysics couplings for interacting phenomena.
