MIL-PRF-81309 dictates material requirements for aviation-centric thin film corrosion prevention compounds. Over the past five years, field and lab testing data have indicated that current material qualification testing protocols appear insufficient to accurately predict product performance in operational environments. To address this, Naval Air Warfare Center – Aircraft Division is executing testing to identify new product qualification methodologies for assessing Type II and Type IV products. The long-term intent is to update material performance requirements to ensure consistent performance for approved materials. The goal of this presentation is to highlight the experimental work completed in support of this on-going effort and ensure awareness of upcoming specification revisions.
