Mariana Georges is a PhD candidate at Ohio State University, advised by Dr. Gerald Frankel, in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. She earned her undergraduate degree from the Military Institute of Engineering in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and completed her master’s thesis in 2018 on hydrogen embrittlement in dissimilar welded joints. Following her studies, Mariana worked for four years at TechnipFMC, supporting the development of innovative products for subsea systems. She joined OSU in 2023, where her research focuses on advancing the understanding of pitting corrosion mechanisms in various grades of corrosion-resistant alloys by investigating key factors that influence the different stages of pitting corrosion.
