Timothy Montoya is a fourth year PhD candidate at the University of Virginia studying under Dr. Robert Kelly. Timothy’s work aims to use of electrochemical and characterization techniques to provide insight into how additive manufactured processes such as laser powder bed fusion and direct energy deposition and its respective microstructure impacts corrosion behavior in relevant environments. These findings are used to inform and understand how to improve the additive manufacturing process for improved alloys in comparison to conventional alloys.
