Dr. Hangarter is a chemical engineer in the Center for Corrosion Science and Engineering at the U.S. Naval Research Laboratory. His work examines localized corrosion, galvanic corrosion and environmental effects on structural alloys and coatings. He is a the recipient of the Berman paper award and author/co-author of 50 journal publications.
